marks the location of St Mel's Cathedral
in Maps 1 & 2 below. However, the Cathedral
is closed after a large fire gutted it on
Christmas Day 2009. It is currently undergoing
major restoration that will last a number
of years. All parish Masses and celebrations
which formerly took place in the Cathedral
are now held at the nearby St. Mel’s
College which is marked by “B”
on Map 2 below.
As you face the Cathedral
the entrance to St. Mel’s College
is to the right. Please go down the tree-lined
avenue and when the road divides into three
take the road on the right. You will then
arrive at the College Chapel and Cathedral
Centre. The College Chapel is used during
weekdays and the Cathedral Centre at weekends.
Presbytery
/ Parish Office - The presbytery
/ parish office is located in the grounds
of the Cathedral. As you face the Cathedral,
which is presently surrounded by construction
hoarding, the presbytery is to your left
in the same grounds. It remains fully accessible
from Dublin Street.
The Family
Centre - The Family Centre is situated
at the rear of the Cathedral in the same
grounds: it can be accessed via a pedestrian
gate from St. Mel’s Road.
ST MICHAEL’S
CHURCH, SHROID - St. Michael’s
Church, Shroid is found 2.5 miles from Longford
on the N4 road to Dublin. “S”
marks its location on Map 3 below.
Mass is celebrated there at 10.30 am every
Sunday.
ST ANNE’S
CHURCH, CURRY- St. Anne’s
Church, Curry is located 4 miles from Longford
on the R397 road to Athlone. “C”
marks its location on Map 4 below. Mass
is celebrated there at 9.30 am every Sunday.
